Jehovah’s Witnesses – New Heaven and Earth

“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My word shall not pass away“ (Matt. 24:35). These words were spoken by our Lord Jesus Christ. Would it surprise you to learn that some very dedicated people who profess to be followers of Christ take issue with that statement? The Jehovah’s Witness organization contends that the earth will never pass away; it will simply go through a process of cleansing and renovation. According to them, the earth will be changed but not pass away. This will allegedly occur after the final judgment. J.F. Rutherford, one of the founders and principal representatives of the Jehovah’s Witness organization wrote as follows: “When mankind reaches perfection at the close of the Millennial age, as already shown, they will be admitted into membership in the Kingdom of God and given the entire control of earth as at first designed — each man a sovereign, a king.” The Plan of the Ages, Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, Brooklyn, NY, Page 296.

Jehovah’s Witnesses – Second Coming of Christ

Jesus is certainly coming again. When He returns, it will be the second coming. But are you aware of the numerous errors that are taught about His return? There is no group of professed followers of the Lord more confused and misled than those who call themselves Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Jehovah’s Witness theologians have written literally thousands of pages about the second coming of Christ. Ninety percent of what they have put in print and preached is designed to prove their false assumption that Jesus has already come back. They teach that Jesus returned to earth secretly and invisibly in 1914. We may well wonder: if he returned invisibly and quietly, how would one then know that he actually returned? Jehovah’s Witnesses answer that Jesus came and was recognized through the “spiritual eyes” of the Jehovah’s Witness organization. “So A.D. 1914 marks the time of Christ’s invisible return in spirit.” (This Means Everlasting Life, page 221).

Jehovah’s Witnesses – Jesus – Not a Created Being

The Jehovah’s Witnesses say Jesus is only a created being. They cite Revelation 3:14 as proof. The passage reads: “And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God.” We will show that “beginning” does not mean Jesus was a created being.

First, the word “beginning” means “cause” or “origin”. This is seen by reading Revelation 21:6, 7. God is called the “beginning.” Revelation 22:13, 16 definitely shows that Jesus is the “beginning” in this sense.

Jehovah’s Witnesses – Deity of Jesus

The deity of Jesus Christ is the foundation of Christianity. Without a full acceptance of His deity, salvation from sin is impossible. Jesus said, “If you believe not that I am He, you will die in your sins” (John 8:24). Please evaluate the following and see if, to you, it sounds like an expression of faith in His deity. “It is also easy to be seen that Jesus could not be part God and part man, because that would be more than the law required; hence divine justice could not accept such as a ransom.” (The Harp of God, page 129). The Harp of God is published by the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Brooklyn, New York, parent of the entire Jehovah’s Witness family, and an official statement of their beliefs. This part deals with “The Atonement between God and Man” and is written by J.F. Rutherford, one of the founders of the Jehovah’s Witness Organization.

Jehovah’s Witnesses – View of Jesus

Was Jesus merely a perfect human while here on earth? Or, was He a perfect blend of Deity and humanity? Was Jesus still God while He inhabited the fleshly body in which He lived while on earth? Or was He merely a perfect man, an ordinary human, just like all other mere mortals except that he lived a sinless life? These questions may sound strange to some of you, but I assure you, they are very serious and very real questions. Our friends in the Jehovah’s Witness Organization teach that Jesus was not the Eternal Son, that He, like all other mortals, was a created being. They deny Jesus was deity while he lived on earth as a man. They further deny His bodily resurrection from the dead.

Jehovah’s Witnesses – Hell

One of the most active religious groups in existence call themselves Jehovah’s Witnesses. They are a very zealous and active group of people. It is unlikely that anyone who reads this has not at one time or another been confronted with this particular religious group. Along with the zeal and activity of the Jehovah’s Witness organization comes also blatant and egregious doctrinal error. There are many things professed Christians can tolerate in others with whom they differ, but the doctrines taught by this particular group are diametrically opposite the teaching of God’s word. It is a duty of faithful Christians to expose and oppose such erroneous doctrines.

Jehovah’s Witnesses – Origins and Errors

A sect called “Jehovah’s Witnesses” represent a very large segment of the religious world. They will be found worldwide due to their extensive personal ministry efforts. Hardly a house in your area will escape a visit from these people. It is important that we know as much as possible about them.

In 1931 the name “Jehovah’s Witnesses” was taken by a group of zealous religionists, followers of a man named Charles Taze Russell. Russell preached there is no such thing as eternal punishment, or what the Bible calls “hell.” He was a prolific writer and published literally hundreds of pages of print spreading this doctrine as far as he could. His first publication was called Food for Thinking. This later became The Watchtower Announcing Jehovah’s Kingdom. In 1896 Russell incorporated his organization and it became known as “The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, Inc.” Watchtower is a name these people have held to through various internal struggles and divisions and is the kernel of the Jehovah’s Witnesses today.

Pentecostalism – The Formula for Water Baptism

Just before Jesus returned to the Father’s right hand, He left these orders with His disciples. “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world” (Matt. 28:19-20).

These instructions were directed to those who were to baptize others, not to the one who is baptized. The Lord told His disciples how they were to baptize others, viz., “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” That is precisely what they did as they went forth teaching and baptizing. The United Pentecostal Church and other “oneness” groups teach that there is a formula which the one doing the baptizing must recite in order to validate water baptism. A tract published by the United Pentecostal Publishing House, Hazelwood, Missouri says,

Pentecostalism – God and Oneness

The United Pentecostal Creed Book tells us what their position is on “The One True God.” They believe God “has revealed Himself as Father, through His Son, in redemption; and as the Holy Spirit by emanation.”

They further explain, “The one true God, the Jehovah of the Old Testament, took upon Himself the form of man, and as the Son of man, was born of the virgin Mary.”

Further, “Unlike traditional trinitarianism, the UPCI (United Pentecostal Church International) affirms that God is absolutely one, with no distinction of persons. He has revealed Himself as Father (in parental relationship to humanity), in His Son Jesus Christ (in human flesh), and as the Holy Spirit (in spiritual action).”
